How should small business owners start out in social media?

Understandably, you want to start simple.  It can be a bit overwhelming to try to take in everything at once, so let’s take it one step at a time. 

Which social media platforms you choose will depend largely on your industry, however it’s almost mandatory that companies have a Facebook page and a website with a blog!  These two “basics” are essential, regardless if you ever decide to go any further.  Blogging is something that intimidates many people, but once you get the hang of it it’s really not that difficult.  Learn how to use Facebook and build your blogging expertise, and you will be ready to branch out into other social media platforms.

While there are countless benefits to using social media for small business, the biggest benefit of all is that you will have the ability to connect with thousands or even tens of thousands of people (potential customers) that you would otherwise not have been able to!  An added bonus – once you gather a few Twitter followers and Facebook fans, they will take care of some of the marketing for you as they share your blog posts, news, and other content.
